CONCACAF Champions League Semi Finals

CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals

No, not that Champions League! To be honest I have never paid much attention to the CONCACAF Champions League games. They are usually played during the MLS preseason, and the MLS teams don’t make it that far. The finalists are normally teams from Mexico and they are teams that I am not that familiar with. This year it might be different.

This year there are Five MLS teams in the CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals.

Tuesday, April 27th

Atlanta United vs Philadelphia Union (FS1)
Toronto FC vs Cruz Azul (FS1)

Wednesday, April 28th

Columbus Crew vs Monterrey (FS2)
Portland Timbers vs Club America (FS1)

So we have five MLS teams in the quarter-finals. This means that we are guaranteed of having at least one MLS team in the semi-finals this year. It is so early in the season for the MLS teams to be playing these high-pressure games. The Mexican teams have a huge advantage that they have played about 15-16 games in their domestic league already this season. The MLS teams have only played their second game, so I don’t think that they will be as sharp.

Currently, Cruz Azul sits top of Liga MX, with Club America in second place, and Monterrey in fourth place. They are all talented teams with a lot of experience in this tournament. The first-round games are this week and the leg 2 games will be played on May 5/6th.
